New York — Amazon is imposing a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on third-party sellers who use its platform starting later this month amid rising fuel prices since the start of the war in Iran.
The temporary fee is effective April 17 for many sellers who use Amazon’s fulfillment services, the online giant confirmed to The Associated Press in an email Thursday.
“High fuel and logistics costs have increased operating costs across the industry,” Amazon said in the emailed statement.
The Seattle-based company said it has absorbed these increases so far but like other major carriers, when costs remain high, it applies temporary surcharges to partially recover those costs. She noted that the fees are “significantly” lower than surcharges applied by other major carriers.
“We are committed to the success of our selling partners and to maintaining a wide selection and low prices for customers,” Amazon added.
Amazon fuel and logistics surcharges will apply to US and Canadian sellers using the Fulfillment by Amazon option. Starting May 2, the additional fees will take effect with sellers using the Buy with Prime and MultiChannel Fulfillment options.
