New York — A suspected wallet thief was arrested after an NYPD officer chased him and his horse through the streets of Manhattan.
The chase began late Wednesday morning when the victim reported the robbery. The officer – whose name has not been released – and his horse quickly took up the chase, which was captured on his camera and also by a TV news crew who happened to be in the area for an unrelated story.
The officer repeatedly shouted at the suspect to stop running, but she refused while denying that she had taken the wallet. The short chase took place along sidewalks, under scaffolding, between parked cars and across streets before a pedestrian stopped the woman and the officer then arrested her.
The woman was accused of theft and providing false information. She was convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of a taxi driver in April 2000, and served time in prison before being released, authorities said. She is currently on life parole.
No injuries were reported in the chase.
