Police are treating an attack on a house in Bangor, Co Down, as a hate crime.

The incident was reported to police at around 22:10 BST on Monday.

The kitchen window of the house on Ganaway Walk in Kilcooley was smashed. Police have asked anyone with information to contact them.

Councilors in the area have described the attack as “despicable” and “a senseless act of intimidation.”

Bangor mayor and Alliance councilor Gillian McCollum told BBC News NI she was “horrified” by the attack.

McCollum described it as “a senseless act of intimidation,” which was “designed to instill fear in this community.”

“This is a municipality to which we all belong equally and I unreservedly condemn the people who are behind this action,” he said.

He encouraged people to cooperate with police and help “tackle this type of behavior and root it out.”

DUP councilor Carl McClean also condemned the attack.

“No one, whatever the reason or motivation, needs that to happen to them,” he said.

“No one here wants that. This doesn’t help any cause or any person who lives here.

“Whoever did this, I want you to know that they do not have any support from the people who live here or from any elected representatives.

“It’s despicable.”

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them.
