Drones are heading to German ports, hospitals and oil refineries in the last hybrid attack

Germany is investigating Russia’s participation in a mysterious swarm of drones spying on an energy plant, hospital and military shipyard.

A fuel refinery and a regional parliament were also attacked in what could be the last example of Moscow’s hybrid war against NATO.

Unmanned aerial vehicles were seen flying over the facilities in Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost province of Germany, at the end of last week.

An internal government memorandum, cited by Der Spiegel, the influential German news magazine, says that the critical infrastructure was being measured by the size by drone operators.

NATO allies have had a growing pressure of the hybrid attacks linked to Russian in recent weeks.

This comes in addition to the accusations of “reckless” violations of the airspace of the Military Alliance for Russian aircraft and combat drones, as tensions intensify between the West and Moscow.

In the last incident, the drones were seen flying over a military shipyard belonging to Thyssenkrupp, the manufacturer of warship, in the port city of Kiel last Thursday night.

Shortly after, a “drone network with a mother drone” was seen about the nearby University Hospital.

Similar formations were also detected on the coastal central of Kiel to Gas and the Baltic North Sea Canal, a vital European shipping route.

Landeshaus Kiel, the Parliament of the State and the Heide Refinery, which supplies the near Hamburg airport with Queroseno, were also discarded.

It was said that drones flew in parallel lines to accurately measure the facilities in the soil.

Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, said: “Among other things, due to the recent incidents in Denmark and other European countries, Schleswig-Holstein is in intensive coordination and continuous with the federal government and the Bundeswr.”

The UAV were seen on the eve of a European Union Summit in the Danish capital on Wednesday, where leaders will discuss support for Ukraine, sanctions to Russia and a so -called “drone wall” to protect the continent.

This includes a loan of € 140 billion (£ 121.8 billion) for Ukraine to buy weapons using Russian assets seized in Europe to guarantee financing.

Before the summit, Emmanuel Macron warned: “We are in a confrontation with Russia, which for several years has been very aggressive in the information space, also during the elections, and is increasing its cyber attacks.”

Denmark has banned the use of civil drones during the meeting of two -day leaders and called dozens of NATO allies to monitor the country.

The United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Poland and the United States are providing anti-Drone and surveillance equipment to use any repeated attacks.

These include radars, helicopters and a German air defense frigate docked in the port of Copenhagen.

The German and Danish authorities have not yet presented conclusive evidence that the recent drone incidents are linked to Russia.

The Kremlin has denied any participation in what has been described as “hybrid attacks.”

But this has not prevented European leaders from calling Moscow for the appearance of mysterious drones in their airspace.

“We still don’t know where they really come from,” said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“The suspicion is that they come from Russia.”

Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, said: “From a European perspective there is only one country … willing to threaten us and that is Russia, and therefore we need a very strong response.”

Analysts say that the “gray zone” tactics deployed by Russia are probably an attempt to deter Western to Ukraine.

Collecting intelligence of critical national infrastructure, as in Germany, is often described as Russian preparation for a war with NATO.
