The New England Patriots are close to negotiating a contract extension with cornerback Christian González.

Gonzalez was a top-tier coverage cornerback in 2025. The 23-year-old recorded 10 passes defended and made his presence felt in the postseason. His performance in the divisional round helped the Patriots secondary knock Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud out of the game in New England’s 28-16 victory over Houston.

Gonzalez defined his career with two incredible passes defended against Seattle Seahawks first-team All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Rashid Shaheed in the Super Bowl. With a second-team All-Pro honor to his name starting in 2024, Gonzalez has his work cut out for him to earn a massive extension.

According to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf discussed upcoming contract negotiations with Gonzalez at the NFL combine on Tuesday.

“Christian was obviously good before and made an even more significant jump this year,” Wolf said. “And he’s someone we want to work with in the future, obviously. We’ll have those conversations at the right time.”
