Denver — More than 100 firefighters battled a large blaze Friday evening that swept through a three-story apartment complex under construction in southeast Denver, officials said.
Robert Murphy, chief of operations at Denver Fire, said firefighters are continuing to work to extinguish the fire more than two hours after it broke out.
“It’s a big deal,” he said. “I can’t tell you the last time we had a three-alarm fire of this size in Denver.”
No injuries were reported, according to the fire department.
The building is located next to a major road that the Denver Police Department said in a post on the social media platform X was temporarily closed in both directions.
Some residents of a nearby apartment building were advised to leave because of the heat from the fire, Murphy said.
The Colorado Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said in a post on X that the fire caused a “major power outage.” Officials opened a temporary overnight shelter at an event center in the nearby city of Glendale.
