Attorney general Pam Bondi stone wall senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-ri) while looking at the president’s reports Donald Trump’s border tsar, Tom Homanaccepted a $50,000 cash bribe on Tuesday, firing back at the senator to accuse him of working with “dark money groups.”
According to an MSNBC report, Homan accepted a $50,000 cash payment from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives in exchange for promised government contracts. MSNBC said the exchange was caught on video, while The New York Times reported that it was “recorded on audio paper.”
FBI Director Kash Patel and deputy attorney general Todd Blanche He said the case “was subjected to a complete review” and that investigators “found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.”
Whitehouse pressed Bondi on whether the FBI shared the money used in the alleged sting or whether Homan kept it during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday.
After Whitehouse first raised the question, Bondi responded bluntly: “Senator, I look at your facts.”
After a pause, Whitehouse repeated the question, and Bondi responded by citing Patel and Blanche’s statement that “no evidence of wrongdoing was found after a full FBI review.
The couple continued:
Sheldon Whitehouse: Are you saying they didn’t give $50,000 in cash to Mr. Homan?
Pam Bondi: Senator, as was recently stated, Mr. Homan’s investigation was subjected to a full review by FBI agents.
Whitehouse: That’s a different question.
Bondi: – By FBI agents, by prosecutors from the Department of Justice. They found no evidence of irregularities.
Whitehouse: That’s a different question. What happened to the $50,000? Did the FBI recover it?
Bondi: Mr. Whitehouse – Excuse me, Senator Whitehouse, you can speak to the FBI.
Whitehouse: They report to you, can’t you answer this question?
Bondi: Senator Whitehouse, you can discuss this with Director Patel.
Whitehouse: Did Homan keep the $50,000?
Bondi: As Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche recently stated the investigation –
As the Attorney General slowly repeated his response, the senator lost patience and cut in: “It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter!” He added that he could “see” that he “wasn’t going to get a straight answer” to “a very simple question.”
Bondi took the heat on Whitehouse, accusing him of working with “dark money groups” while pushing legislation that would have benefited his wife’s affairs.
Bondi: FBI and DOJ agents found no credible evidence of wrongdoing. You know, you’re very worried about money and people who take money and get you into dark money.
Whitehouse: Wait a second, wait a second.
Bondi: However, you work with dark money groups all the time. Senator Whitehouse.
Whitehouse: Wait a second. Did you know if in that investigation they looked at whether the 2024 payment of $50,000 to Mr. Homan was reported by him on his tax returns?
Bondi: Senator, I would be more concerned if I were you, when talking about corruption and money, who pushed for legislation that would subsidize your wife’s company,
Cutting Bondi off, Whitehouse chastised her for ducking “quite specific” questions to raise what he called “completely irrelevant, far-right Internet talking points.”
Back to the president Chuck Grassley (R-IA), requested that a formal QFR be written to Patel to get his questions answered:
“What happened to the $50,000? Did Homan keep it? Did the FBI recover it? If he kept it, did he put it on his tax returns? Pretty simple questions,” he concluded before continuing.
