Jeff Bezos is probably making big financial decisions every day. Bezos, best known for being the founder of Amazon, is, after all, one of the richest men in the world. And the fact that every little thing he does is scrutinized is because of that, of course, but also because of the personal drama that people feel involved in. First was Mackenzie Scott’s divorce, which made her a billionaire. Then his recent and luxurious wedding in Venice with journalist Lauren Sánchez. But what exactly has Bezos done now?
Well, he sold his Seattle mansion after two years of living in Miami with his wife, Lauren Sánchez. And the numbers are staggering. He Puget Sound Business Journal first reported that the property sold for $63 million.

The property was one that Bezos purchased in 2019. He originally bought it for $37.5 million, making more than $25 million on the sale. It is located in the Hunts Point neighborhood of King County, overlooking Lake Washington and about seven miles from Amazon’s headquarters in downtown Seattle. It appears that Bezos does not foresee the need to return to the company’s headquarters any time soon.
Part of this could have to do with the fact that he appears to be divesting from Amazon stock, to the point that today his stake in Amazon is less than 10%. In a disclosure this year, Bezos reported that he owned 9.6% of the company’s outstanding shares. It has dumped more than 100 million shares in the past year alone. Last year, Bezos owned 10.1% of the company. In 1997, when the company went public, it owned 43%.
Despite how much things have changed for Bezos, it’s important to remember that his net worth is still over $220 billion. So he’s not exactly hurting for money, but that clearly doesn’t mean he’s not trying to earn more when he can. For example, in court.
All of this comes amid the still-ongoing legal battle with his wife’s estranged brother, Michael Sanchez. It all dates back to reports that Bezos and Sanchez were having an affair, which first surfaced when she was still married to Patrick Whitesell. The reports came with X-rated photos of their private text messages, which at the time were attributed to Sanchez’s brother.
Michael Sánchez denied all charges, called his sister and Bezos “liars and cheats” and even sued them for defamation. However, the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in favor of Bezos and the Amazon founder requested that Sánchez cover all legal matters.
Page six reported that Bezos’ legal team filed a motion in California Superior Court demanding that Michael Sánchez pay $182,374 in attorneys’ fees and $8,182 in legal costs, “incurred in connection with (1) his successful Special Strike Motion, and (2) this Motion for Attorneys’ Fees and Costs.”
Twenty-five million for a house, almost 200 thousand in legal fees. It may not be nearly the same number, but Bezos still clearly thinks like a businessman.
