Joni Lamb, who founded the organization with her late husband Daystar Television Network He directed it to become one of the largest Christian television networks in the world. He died Thursday. She was 65 years old.
The network said in a statement that Lamb, the network’s president, was suffering from serious health problems before she suffered a back injury that led to the deterioration of her health. The cause of death was not revealed.
“Johnny’s love for the Lord and the people we serve has shaped this ministry from the beginning,” the network’s board of directors said in the statement.
The network said that its ministry will continue and that Lamb has ensured that a leadership team is in place.
She and her husband, Marcus Lamb, who died in 2021, began broadcasting in the Dallas area with a single station in 1993. Five years later, Joni Lamb began hosting her signature daily women’s program.
Headquartered in Bedford, Texas, the Daystar Television Network has grown to broadcast in over 200 countries and has broadcast programs by many well-known evangelists, including Joel Osteen and T.D. Jacks.
The network said it reaches 2.3 billion homes around the world.
Her ministry was rooted in Pentecostalism, the Christian tradition known for its Spirit-filled worship, belief in modern-day miracles and daily battles with evil influences.
In addition to being the president of the network and working behind the scenes, Joni Lamb can be seen on air hosting “Joni Table Talk” and discussing issues of the day.
She stood by her late husband in 2010 when he admitted on television to having an affair with a woman years earlier. Marcus Lamb also claimed that three people tried to extort money from him to keep quiet.
Joni Lamb said at the time that when she learned of his betrayal she was devastated and prayed to the Holy Spirit who told her: “He is worth fighting for.”
The couple said they had healed their marriage and had hoped to keep it a secret.
“All you can do is tell the truth and take your pain and use it to try to help someone else,” Johnny Lamb said.
After her first husband died at the age of 64, she married Doug Weiss two years later. Together they hosted the “Ministry Now” show.
