Man Utd have an avalanche of options in attack, but none of them are considered tailor-made for the left wing role.
Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are both left-footed, so they naturally prefer to play on the right flank as inverted wingers and cut towards the centre. As for Matheus Cunha, his technical qualities are more suited to a central role than a broad one.
Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande high on Man United’s wish list
In his latest appearance on the United Stand, football journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that United are expected to “do a big job” with a left winger this summer.
The Red Devils have been repeatedly linked with Yan Diomande in recent months, with the transfer market expert confirming the youngster is one of their top names on the list, identifying him as “the one to watch”.

Jacobs added that Leipzig’s €100 million asking price has turned away many suitors, but some remain hopeful the valuation will fall before the start of the summer.
However, Manchester United’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell is a former employee of the Bundesliga club and had already used his connections to help the club sign Benjamin Sesko last summer.
Why Diomande is Man Utd’s top target for the role
The Ivorian began his career in the United States before making the step to Europe in January 2025 through the doors of Leganés. After a brief spell in Spain, he completed a €20 million transfer to Leipzig, immediately establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most devastating wingers.

“It’s incredible. When you let him get into a one-on-one situation, you know he’s going to win the duel.” said Diomande’s teammate Yan Ouedraogo.
The 19-year-old has a good relationship with Amad, having played alongside the Manchester United star for the Ivory Coast team at the recent African Cup of Nations.
All in all, United and Diomande appear to be a perfect match, but the Red Devils must act quickly and decisively to beat the competition, which includes other European giants such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
In this sense, securing the Champions League for next season could be a crucial aspect in the quest to boost their finances and increase their appeal.
