NBA commissioner Adam Silver admits the league’s collapse is worse than in recent times

After the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers were fined six figures for “openly” sinking, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told reporters two days later during All-Star weekend in Inglewood, California, that the sinking behavior seen by the league this season is worse than anything seen in recent memory.

That’s what led to those hefty fines, Silver said at the podium Saturday.

Silver was later asked if harsher punishments, such as those that would take away draft picks, could be imposed in response to an intentional forfeit.

“Now we are talking about all the possible remedies to stop this behavior,” Silver said.

For now, he believes the fines will send a message.

“We’re going to take a closer look at the totality of all the circumstances of this season in terms of the behavior of the teams and very intentionally wanted the teams to be alert,” he said.
