Riverside Park’s permanent pond will be reconnected to the Acushnet River to recreate a marsh and restore habitat in a project that will receive $50,000 in aid. The project is part of a larger effort to restore the New Bedford Harbor, a Superfund site that is now 99% clean. The restoration will create vibrant, healthy marsh habitat and is part of the larger RiverWalk recreational trail.

Dartmouth’s Fall 2025 Town Meeting approved all 14 articles of the order Tuesday night, Oct. 21, at Dartmouth High School, including one that changes how governing bodies introduce new rules and regulations, and another to balance a spending shortfall after a difficult year when it comes to providing enough water for the town.

Quahog Republic Whaler’s Tavern on Water Street is getting a change of ownership from a familiar face who hopes to turn the restaurant into a date night spot with entrees.

With the steel structure of New Bedford’s new Congdon-Devalles Elementary School in the city’s South End complete, things appear to be on track for the district’s projected January 2027 opening.

The new school, located at 350 Bolton St., will replace Congdon and DeValles elementary schools, both in New Bedford’s South End. Congdon is among the oldest school buildings in the city, one of several built in 1907.

What is special about the building? The Congdon-DeValles school will be the first in New Bedford.

And passing motorists chimed in with sustained honks in support at a much higher rate (more like honking than not honking) as they drove past the protesters lining up along Rockdale Avenue in front of Buttonwood Park.

Although their concerns were serious, there were many smiles, cheers and hugs shared among the participants, estimated at more than 1,000.

Rehabilitation of the historic building at 89 North Water St. and its transformation into 19 apartments is moving forward.

Although primarily in the hotel business, this is the second residential building Sean Lafrance has overseen as facilities director for Lafrance Hospitality of Westport.

The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, will feature 15 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments.

Six 911 calls released by the Dartmouth Police Department since the day of the Oct. 13 plane crash on Interstate 195 paint a picture of shock and confusion. One caller, a paramedic, got out of his car to see if the people inside the plane could be rescued.

The accident remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
