Another San Antonio-area business has apparently been locked out, contributing to a trend of restaurant and bar closures, both temporary and permanent, that has hit the city and surrounding municipalities this month. In this case, it is The Winchester Pub that has been forced to close after its owner changed the locks on the British bar and grill.
Several Facebook users have shared that a lock notice was reportedly posted on the front door of The Winchester. The notice was issued by the property management company for Stewart Center, the commercial block in Alamo Heights that houses the British pub. MySA contacted the number listed on the notice and spoke with Patti Stewart, president of the Stewart Center, about the status of The Winchester.
“As far as I know, it’s still not up and running. They closed down the business a few weeks ago,” Stewart told MySA.
The Winchester has been under new ownership since at least July 31, according to social media posts by the pub. The business’ former owner, Greg Ploch, wrote that he was selling the business after eight years to pursue a new venture. A Facebook post by 78209 magazine claims that Andrea Castaneda bought the pub on May 1, 2025, but an article about the acquisition was removed from the magazine’s website.
MySA attempted to contact The Winchester directly by phone, but the company did not respond and there was no option to leave a message. Additionally, we sent emails and messages to the company on social media, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
