Shreveport, Louisiana — A gunman in Louisiana killed eight children in domestic shootings at various homes early Sunday, Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith said.

Smith said the ages of the victims ranged from one to about 14 years old. A total of 10 people were shot.

The gunman later died after a chase with officers shooting the suspect, Smith said.

The suspect stole a car as he was leaving the scene of the shooting, and police followed him, Smith said.

Officials said they are still gathering details about the crime scene, which stretches across three locations. Some of the children who were shot were related to the suspect, Smith said.

“This is a large-scale spectacle unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Smith said.

Louisiana State Police say Shreveport police have asked their investigators to investigate the matter. No officers were injured in the officer-involved shooting following a Bossier City police chase Sunday morning, State Police said in a statement.

State Police are asking anyone with photos, videos or information to share it with State Police investigators.
