I was speaking in the resumption of the international conference co -presided with Saudi Arabia focused on the question of Palestine and the solution of two states with Israel.
“The time has come for peace because we are just a few moments that we can no longer take peace,” he said.
‘We can’t wait’: Macron
On Sunday of a Palestinian state of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal recognized a Palestinian State, and President Macron announced that France would join them, to long applause of delegates who attended the meeting.
“The recognition of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people does not take away anything to the rights of the people of Israel that France supported from the first day and with the respect to those who are firmly committed,” he said.
“That is why we are so convinced that this recognition is the only solution that will allow Israel to live in peace.”
More support is needed
The meeting follows the resolution of the General Assembly the overwhelming support of the declaration of results from the first phase of the conference, which took place in July at the UN headquarters.
Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal Bin Farhan al Saud thanked those countries that have recognized the state of Palestine or announced their intention to do so.
“We call on all other countries that take a similar historical step that will have a great impact on supporting efforts towards the implementation of the solution of two states, achieving permanent and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, and finding a new reality by which the region can enjoy peace, stability and prosperity,” he said.
Guterres reiterates Fire cessation appeal
In his comments, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, repeated his statement that nothing can justify the horrible October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks against Israel or the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
Again, he asked for fire in Gaza, the release of all hostages and safe, unconditional and obstacle humanitarian access, which must happen immediately.
The UN Chief added that nothing can excuse the developments in the West Bank that represent an existential threat to a solution of two states and requested the end of the expansion of “implacable” settlements, “the threat of annexation” and intensifier of the violence of the settlers.
Palestinian status is a right
“We must commit to the solution of two states before it is too late,” he warned.
“Let’s be clear: status for Palestinians is a right, not a reward“He said, applauding.
“AND To deny the state would be a gift for extremists everywhere. Without two states, there will be no peace in the Middle EastAnd radicalism will extend all over the world. “
‘It is not a’ naive desire ‘
The president of the General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, insisted that the solution of two states is the only way to ensure that future generations of Palestinians and Israelis can live in peace, security and dignity.
“We know that some think that this is a naive desire,” since the first resolution on the matter “is almost as old as this organization,” he said.
For those who point to decades of failure, he emphasized that not pointing to the right thing means that “evil would prevail” and would be “the end of this institution.”
Mrs. Baerbock said the international community is Not only committed to the solution of two states, but “identify tangible steps, schedules and irreversible for its realization”and willing to take decisive measures and provide international guarantees.
