The veteran politician declared that the principle has been repeatedly rejected by Western countries, citing the bombardment of Yugoslavia NATO, Iraq’s invasion for a coalition led by the United States and the NATO military operation in Libya.
“The root of the problem is found in the incessant attempts to divide the world into us and in them, to democracy and autocracy, in a flourishing garden and a jungle, those who are on the table and those that are in the menu.”
West ‘sabotage the search for constructive solutions’
On Friday, an attempt by Russia and China to extend the relief of the sanction to Iran under a 2015 nuclear agreement did not receive enough votes in the Security Council. Mr. Lavrov argued that the vote showed that the West has a policy of “sabotaging the search for constructive solutions in the UN Security Council” and a desire to “extract unilateral concessions from Tehran through blackmail and pressure.”
The sanctions, the minister continue, are used to “suppress and intimidate competitors in the economy and global politics.” He asked that Cuban sanctions rise and expressed the solidarity of Russia with the people of Venezuela against external sanctions.
The resolutions of the Security Council are mocking in the Balkans, said Mr. Lavrov, citing the unilateral recognition of Kosovo, which, he said, was contrary to resolution 1244.
Europe ‘obsessed with the aim of inflicting a defeat to Russia’
As for Ukraine, Mr. Lavrov justified the current war by stating that the country is led by a regime that “seized power as a result of an unconstitutional coup organized by the West in 2014,” the Ukrainian Orthodox Church proposed to eliminate and eradicated the Russian language in education, culture and media.
Mr. Lavrov said that Russia is open to negotiations on “eliminating the root causes of the conflict”, provided that the interests of the country are guaranteed, and the rights of Russians and Russian -speaking people in Ukraine are restored.
Moscow, said Mr. Lavrov, has no intention of attacking the countries of the European Union and NATO, despite the countries of these blocks “tell their voters that the war with Russia is inevitable.”
The Russian minister was more positive about the state of US relations, expressing the hope that the dialogue initiated in Alaska will lead to a resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and develop pragmatic cooperation.
Do not allow a ‘coup d’etat’ in the UN
The current balance of global power, argued Mr. Lavrov, is not being reflected in the United Nations, so Russia supports the requests of Brazil and India for permanent seats in the Security Council, and the reform proposed by Secretary General António Guterres of the UN.
The Secretariat, he added, must fairly represent the countries of the world and “the attempts of a coup d’etat of the palace, their privatization by a small group of countries, should not afford.”
Russia, said Mr. Lavrov, awaits a constructive discussion about the development of the organization at a special meeting of the Security Council that Russia, as president, plans to organize United Nations Day on October 24.
‘Nazism is raising the head’
More and more countries, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, are being involved in “confrontation schemes.” He said that NATO is trying to surround all Eurasia with a “military ring.”
Nazism, he added, is “raising his head in Europe”, and militarization is gaining impulse, with politicians in some EU countries and NATO talking about a third World War as a probable scenario.
He insisted that Russia is not agitated by the revolution in any country and is simply asking the Member States and the leadership of the UN Secretariat to “strictly adhere to all the principles of the UN Charter, without exception, without the double standard.”
