Scotland changes four for Six Nations clash with England

Grant Gilchrist and Pierre Schoeman leave Scotland’s group to face England in Saturday’s Six Nations fixture at Murrayfield, and again there is no place in the starting XV for the British and Irish Lions trio of Blair Kinghorn, Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe.

There are four changes, all among the forwards, as head coach Gregor Townsend reacts to a disappointing 18-15 opening defeat in Italy.

George Turner replaces the injured Ewan Ashman at hooker, while former captain Jamie Ritchie comes into the back row in place of Matt Fagerson.

Nathan McBeth starts at loose prop, with Glasgow Warriors teammate Gregor Brown at lock.

That brings the United Rugby Championship leaders’ number of players in the squad to 10, with four more among the replacements.

David Cherry provides backup at hooker on the bench, where he is joined by Edinburgh flanker Graham, while Kinghorn and Van der Merwe miss out completely.

Van der Merwe, the country’s leading try scorer, has six goals against England, including a hat-trick the last time they met at Murrayfield in 2024.

England began the tournament with a convincing 48-7 home victory over Wales.

Scotland lost 16-15 in London last year, having won all four of their previous meetings against England.

More to follow.
