The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 48,000 points on a day when Magnificent Seven stocks dragged down the other major indexes.

The blue-chip index rose 327 points, or 0.7%. The S&P 500 rose 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.3%.

The House of Representatives was scheduled to vote tonight on ending the government shutdown. Stocks have risen amid hopes that the shutdown will not cause lasting damage to the economy.
