The suspect was located in a wooded area behind a home and was taken into custody without incident, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The statement said that the man had been issued arrest warrants on several charges, including attempted murder and first-degree arson.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a previous statement that firefighters and their deputies were called to extinguish a fire that broke out on Saturday evening in the town of Roseboro, and they found a woman with burns to about two-thirds of her body.
The woman said that a man broke into her house, and that the suspect left the place on a bicycle, according to the sheriff’s statement. The woman was taken to the trauma center for treatment. Her condition has not been revealed.
Roseboro is a small community located about 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of the state capital, Raleigh.
