A year ago, Mr. Al-Sharaa was the leader of a rebel group based in northwest Syria before leading a rapid military offensive in the late 2024 that knocked down the Assad regime in Damascus.
“From the moment the old regime fell, we established a clear strategic policy based on three pillars: balanced diplomacy, security and stability and economic development,” he said.
He promised that Syria was now “rebuilding through the establishment of a new State, building institutions and laws that guarantee everyone’s rights without exception.”
Al-Sharaa said that commissions for transition justice had been created and investigating the destiny of missing persons, while the work is underway to choose a legislative council.
Civil and military institutions have been restructured, the dissolved prior bureaucracy and a “established competition government” to strengthen participation.
He pointed out the complete restoration of international relations, new regional and global associations, as evidenced by the partial lifting of sanctions.
“The main regional and international companies have already begun to enter the Syrian market, contributing through investment and reconstruction,” he said, as he requested the lifting of all sanctions so that “they are no longer” chained to the Syrian people. “
From agitation to renewal
President Al-Sharaa portrayed Syria as a nation that moves from agitation to renewal, stating: “A land of ancient civilization and culture deserves to be a rule of law. Protecting everyone, safeguarding rights, guaranteeing freedoms and promoting life to bloom while turning the page of a must.”
He also promised responsibility, noting that Syria had formed research commissions to investigate recent sectarian violence and became accessible to UN researchers.
“I guarantee to bring all responsible and responsible for bloodshed to justice before justice,” he said.
At the same time, he denounced continuous Israeli attacks on the Syrian territory as threats to regional stability and reiterated Damascus’s commitment to the disconnection of the 1974 forces.
“We are committed to dialogue,” he said, asking the international community to support Syria to attacks.
“In the continuation of Syrian history, I declare to you today the triumph of truth for falsehood,” he told the delegates.
“The truth has come, and falsehood has perished. Syria is recovering its legitimate place among the nations of the world.”
