“Once the plans are submitted, the role of this committee and its professional staff will begin,” Will Scharf, chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission, said at its monthly meeting Thursday.
The 90,000-square-foot ballroom will be larger than the main White House itself, at nearly twice the size, and President Donald Trump has said it will seat 999 people. Its estimated price will reach $300 million, a cost that has increased beyond initial expectations.
Trump said on social media that the hall will not cost taxpayers a dime because it is privately funded by “many generous patriots, great American corporations, and yours truly.”
