The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg is a known Chelsea hater, but he covers the club closely and knows what’s going on.

Before the game against Arsenal, he took a look at the bigger picture, 18 months on from Enzo Maresca’s time at the club. Expectations are constantly rising as our place in the table improves, but the club wants to keep everything tight even in times of good form.

“There is no pressure on Maresca to win the league this season,” Steinberg writes in his article today.

“The 45-year-old has goals to achieve, but Chelsea will not review his work until next summer. They have no desire to be forced to sack a manager for a season again. Chelsea want stability and they are just getting started.”

Maresca has a season and a half of credit already in the bank, and after achieving those goals last season he is on track to do it again. Even allowing for the fact that there is likely to be at least one bad stretch between now and the end of the season, the big picture is that the coach is doing well and will be around for some time, especially now that the new owners are trying to shake off their history of firing coaches quickly.

Moisés Caicedo will be key for Chelsea today as the Blues look to take on Arsenal in the Premier League. We need him at full power to have a chance.

Another potentially important factor in tomorrow’s match will be whether Wesley Fofana is at risk. He is a top player, but he already played 90 minutes against Barcelona in midweek, and now Enzo Maresca has to decide whether to take a chance with him again.
