Washington– president Donald Trump The motorcade took a different route than usual to the airport as it departed Florida on Sunday due to a “suspicious object,” according to the White House.

The object, which the White House did not describe, was discovered during security raids before Trump arrived at Palm Beach International Airport.

“Further investigation was warranted and the presidential motorcade route was adjusted accordingly,” White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said in a statement Sunday.

When reporters asked him about the package, the president said: “I don’t know anything about it.”

Trump left the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, around 6:20 p.m. for the roughly 10-minute drive to the airport, but took a loop route around the city to get there.

While driving, police officers on motorcycles set up a moving barricade in front of the motorcade, and at one point it nearly collided with the trucks escorting Trump.

Air Force One was parked on the other side of the airport where it is usually located and the lights outside the plane were turned off.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the US Secret Service, said the secondary route was taken as a precaution and that “this is standard protocol.”
