los angeles — A United Airlines The plane returned to Los Angeles Airport on Monday about 40 minutes after takeoff to conduct an emergency evacuation after a fire was reported, authorities said.
All flights at Los Angeles International Airport were ordered to remain on the ground for approximately half an hour during the flight’s return and evacuation, in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration advice. No injuries were reported.
The flight, which was en route to Newark, New Jersey, returned to Los Angeles to address a possible engine fire, the airline said in a statement. The Los Angeles Fire Department said it responded and contained the fire an hour after the plane landed.
The flight took off at 10:43 a.m., began turning around at about 11 a.m. and landed again at 11:19 a.m., according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it helped evacuate more than 250 passengers and crew. The airline said passengers exited the plane on the aisle using slides and stairs and were taken to the lounge.
The plane was a Boeing 787-9, a version of the famous 787 Dreamliner line of long-haul aircraft.
