The 30-year-old star and two-time NFL MVP led the Chiefs to five Super Bowls in six seasons and three crowns before the club fell to 6-11 last year.

Last December, Mahomes suffered torn ligaments in his left knee and underwent surgery to repair them without knowing when he would be able to return.
Three months later, Mahomes appeared in a video posted on social media by the Chiefs in which he stepped back and threw a pass.
In January, Mahomes said his recovery was “going very well” and that his doctor said he could be fully ready for the first week of the 2026 NFL season in early September.
The video shows Mahomes wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg and stepping back to pass, calmly shifting his weight back and forth on his legs and making a throw.

The video shows that Mahomes has reached the first milestone in his rehab journey, but it is not yet known how long or how far he has left on the journey.
It is the first major injury the veteran quarterback has suffered in his nine-year NFL career, where he was known for his climbing ability as well as making clutch throws with games on the line.
