It should come as no surprise, given the elite pitching rotation that Aaron Boone and the Yankees front office have managed to put together, with Max Fried, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren notching several wins to their name.

One thing that hasn’t been talked about much is the absence of their ace Carlos Rodón, who was sidelined at the start of the season after undergoing surgery on his left elbow at the end of last season.

He emerged after what was a strong season for the veteran, posting an 18-9 record with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP, while fanning 203 batters over the course of his 33 appearances.

The 33-year-old has been working toward a return to the mound this season with New York, and on Thursday night he provided a promising update on his progress. In his second rehab start with the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Somerset Patriots, Rodon would strike out eight batters and allow five hits.
